Looking for a way to team up with your friends, then run them into the ground? Meet Triathablog, a site that takes friendly competition to a whole new level.
At first, I thought it was a triathlon (running, swimming, biking) training blog. But oh no, it's three friends in Birmingham, Alabama, competing for three months in their individual sports.
- Amanda the swimmer
- Carrie the runner
- Elisa the cyclist
Carrie, my pal and colleague, described Triathablog to me, but I had to see it for myself.
They've devised a way to exercise, write about the exercise, and compete for points (mind you, in completely different sports), all while having fun.
There are points and rules and challenges and audience participation and videos and a healthy dose of humor.
Amanda conquers her weekly challenge for 1 measly point, mastering the flip turn:
Three reasons why I am excited about mastering the flip turn:
- It makes me appear as though I know what I am doing.
- Less time at the end of the lane = a better workout.
- It looks really cool.
I asked Carrie why they're so-o-o-o competitive, and she saw it as a natural reflection of their personalities. They're competitive in real life, so why not in this sports challenge blog?
After all, two of the three competed before in their own made-up contest called CheapWomen.org, in which they fought for four months to see who could spend the least. (A competition we'll all be competing in during this bad economy.)
Check out Triathablog. You just might be inspired to take on your friends, and win.
